Tipping Point

5 05 2008

Our fellow NBC 5 blogger, Brian Curtis has a great point about tipping in his blog today….

Read his opinion here: http://thesausagefactory.wordpress.com/2008/05/05/the-hardest-job-ive-ever-had/

It goes hand in hand with our comment about how much the costs of food and gas prices hurt our service people in our restaurants. (read that one by clicking this here linky dink: http://dfwscene.wordpress.com/2008/04/30/running-on-empty/)

So here’s our new thought…which is Brian’s point, too…tip well and often for the folks that are worth it.

Running On Empty

30 04 2008

We’ve done lots of stories on the rising gas prices, but sometimes it’s hard to see the effects of the economic impact unless we put it in perspective. Read the rest of this entry »

Saladburger

3 03 2008

We ate tasty sandwiches at Jason’s Deli yesterday and stumbled across something very odd; an occurrence we’ve termed the “saladburger.”

After heading to the salad bar, an individual will take just a small amount of lettuce (which is simply crispy water with very little nutritional value) and load up too much salad dressing, croƻtons, and plenty of other trinkets that essentially make your once healthy salad as fattening as a hamburger.

We’re confused by this. Why order a salad, trying to lose weight or eat healthy, only to destroy your “good work” with too many fattening accessories?

Grab a tasty sandwich instead…

Eminent Lo Mein

15 02 2008

There are some days where you wake up in the morning and you just KNOW what you’re going to have for dinner.

These are the days I cherish and hold in my heart as moments in time that the world is at peace and all is right — moments when my brain has drafted a menu for the day and my stomach is in perfect agreement.

Sometimes, it’s a “pie in the sky” day where all you want is pizza. Today, it’s eminent Lo Mein, where my noodle need must be fed.

It must have been brought on by the constant mentions of the Genghis Grill and Pei Wei on the radio or as we ride down the street in the DFW Scene Mobile.

For now…around lunchtime…all thoughts turn to my future meal…Mongolian Beef with Fried Rice.

What’s Hypercool This Halloween?

25 10 2007

DFW Scene has that answer, plus ten things to do for the big pumpkin day.

Oh, and we’ve got the ten best scary movies picks and updated listings for places to be scared in the Metroplex.

We would like to know how you intend to spend Halloween night, but since only %10 of the current vote is going to be performing eerie rituals in their backyards, we’re not expecting too much strange activity on the 31st.

Did you know Peanut M&Ms were the 3rd most popular vending machine snack? We’ve got all ten top treats from the vending racks in this slideshow.

If you’re a Steve Carrell fan, you’ll like the interview we’ve got about his new film “Dan In Real Life.”

And 80s music fans, take note: We have the top 50 songs from the decade in a terrific slideshow. Did you favorite make the cut?

Honestly, though, if you didn’t know about all this awesome sitting on the site, sign up for the newsletter or grab the RSS feed, wontcha?

Mmmm Monday

1 10 2007

Yeah, Monday is normally a drag, but we have some neat State Fair stuff from this weekend, including a quick overview and coverage of the deliciously “corny” eating contest.

Speaking of tasty, Taste of Arlington is tomorrow. Check out the details at the Scene.

Plus, we’ve got a new Download every day, so we’ve got that going for us.
