Can’t Find An iPhone? Try Best Buy

13 08 2008

Best Buy will be starting to sell the Apple iPhone in nearly all of it’s stores on Sept. 7th. (read more about those details here)

While that’s a big coup for Best Buy — who sell iMacs, iPods, and all the trimming for each — it’s a bigger coup for Apple, as it’ll further expand the amount of people that will interact with an iPhone.

The Apple fanboys faithful already have played with the iPhone, and even AT&T customers have likely touched on it’s extremely diverse capabilities when they’re deciding on when/if/to what they upgrade their phone. But with Best Buy selling iPhones next to Samsung Instincts (Sprint’s touchscreen phone), it’ll be clear to the “average consumer” what phone has more capabilities…but will Best Buy customers pay Apple Store prices?

It’s safe to say that this play will help with dividing up the tremendous lines at each Apple store and AT&T shops, and Best Buy claims they have spent “250,000 hours training” employees on how to activate the phones, so the activation/purchase element will be helped. But does Apple have enough iPhones to really send enough to every Best Buy that wants to sell them?

We’ve still got a few too many questions on how smooth the rollout will actually be, but I’d bet dollars to iDonuts that by Christmas, shipments will be up, Best Buy will have phones in stock, and your significant other will have to take out a loan to get you one.
