Re-”Discovery”

9 04 2008

Kayne West brought back Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” from 2001’s “Discovery” with his hit, but there’s more to enjoy on the disc than just the sample. Read on to find why I place “Discovery” at the top of my list of best albums.

“Discovery” firmly plants itself at the top of my favorite albums list for many reasons, but the most important is simply the variety on the disc.

Sure, if you don’t like traditional Dance or Electronic music, you might not give the album a second look, but for those willing to take the plunge beyond “One More Time” and “Aerodynamic” — the first two tracks — you’ll find sweet gems such as “Digital Love” and “Something About Us,” which sound closer to the work of Air (or late-night Cinemax) than their dancable friends like “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” or “Voyager.” Each one of these tracks is identifiable, fun, and really freaking good to listen to, again and again.

The depth of sound throughout the album makes it a repeated visitor in my disc drives, iPod playlists, and many — many -many mixes for friends and family.

Go, rediscover Daft Punk’s “Discovery”
