Many Unhappy Returns

6 03 2008

We’re not oblivious to the goings on around the state, especially since we’re on so many e-mail lists, so even during the election on Tuesday we started hearing complaints from folks unhappy with the Texas voting system during this primary season.

Some were unhappy with the explanation of the “two-step” process, some were unhappy with the long lines to vote, some were unhappy with the whole caucusing process, and many many many were unhappy with their personal experiences with something they felt was “unfair,” “biased,” “a conspiracy,” “a mockery,” etc. in their voting place.

While it’s unfortunate there were so many issues people had with the system, their is still an amazing fact — Texans cared about the political process and got out to vote and caucus.

It was apparent in the long lines. It was apparent when polling places ran out of ballots. It was apparent when NBC 5 (a polling place and caucus site) did not have enough room for the people who wanted to stay around to caucus after the polls closed. The numbers prove that Texans care about who is in the general election and while you may be unhappy about how the results turned out, how long you had to wait in line, or how difficult your experience was, it seems — at least in this blogger’s opinion — that the end result is great.
